“Here’s how to get ready for your laser hair removal session:
Shaving the area: Before your appointment, you’ll need to shave the area where you want the hair removed. This is because the hair on the surface can block the laser and make it less effective.
Avoid the sun: Stay out of the sun or tanning beds in the area you want to treat for at least four weeks before your appointment. The sun can make your skin absorb the laser’s energy, and it’s the same thing that makes your skin tan.
No other hair removal: Don’t pluck, wax, or use special creams to remove hair in that area for at least four weeks before your appointment. These methods remove the hair from the roots, and the laser needs the roots to work.
Talk about your health: Tell the person doing the treatment about any medicine you’re taking, especially if it makes your skin more sensitive to light. Some medicines can make the treatment riskier. Plan for a ride home: The laser hair removal might be a bit uncomfortable, and you might get medicine to help with that. But these medicines can affect your ability to drive, so ask someone to take you home after your appointment. During the treatment, the person doing it will use a special device that sends light into the hair follicles. It might feel like a bit of warmth or a small snap, like a rubber band against your skin. The feeling can be different for each person, depending on how much pain you can handle, where you’re getting the treatment, and the type of laser used. The technician will adjust the laser settings based on your skin type, hair color, and the area you’re treating. They’ll also use a special tool to protect the skin around the area to avoid any accidents.
During the treatment, the person getting it will usually lie down on a bed. The laser technician will put a cooling gel on the area being treated. This gel helps keep the skin safe and makes it feel more comfortable. How long the treatment takes can be different for each person and depends on how big the area is. It could be as short as a few minutes or as long as 2-3 hours.
“After the laser hair removal, it’s normal to have some redness or swelling in the treated area because of the heat from the laser. The laser tech might use a cooling gel or spray to make your skin feel better. For the first 24-48 hours after the treatment, try not to do things like sitting in hot tubs, going to saunas, or doing really hard exercises because they can make your skin more irritated. Don’t wax or pluck the hairs in that area either because it can mess up the laser treatment. It’s really important to listen to what the laser tech asks you to do after it’s done. This will help you get the best results and make sure you don’t have any problems. Sometimes, you might need more than one session to get the results you want, depending on how big the area is and how your hair grows.”
